Project 10B: Exhibition (dymaxion)

Project 10B: Exhibition (dymaxion)
8th October 2010
0900-1200

Today, Dr. Rusli Jamaluddin had issued us a project again. I think this is the most interesting project compared to the other. This is because we had to make a globe and then choose the picture of the five projects and paste on top of it. Due to a lot of picture, we can paste by overlapping it. In my opinion, that is a good product because by looking at that picture, we can memorized what we had been done in this first semester in the HBP School.

By doing this project, we were giving two sheet of paper with white and grey colour. We were told that have be more careful while cutting this paper because it was very expensive and each of the student only provided with two sheets. .Due to the paper is not enough big so we had to combine the two sheet of paper while drawing. On that time, I’m just recognized that why lecturer had provide all of us with two sheet of paper.Besides, we also had to Photostat the scale of the globe that Dr. Rusli had been drawing and it was very expensive.

After get the photocopy, I start doing my globe. I was placing the Photostat paper on top of the two sheet paper that had been given and start drawing the scale of the globe.
Due to the paper very big so I had to draw it on the floor.

In the process of drawing.

After finish the drawing, I start to cut the shape out and combine it with the cellotape...

Then, I start to fold the paper that had been cut out.

It was a globe.

After that, I had chosen the picture of the five projects and edit it with computer and printing out. I had print out 18 piece of paper and it was consume roughly about
RM 25.OO.

After that, I started to cut the picture into triangle shape.

These are the picture that I had been cut.

Then, I paste the picture on top of the globe.

Finally, I had finished it.

This is the final product after colouring.

Project 9: Soul Shift

Project 9: Soul Shift
8th October 2010
0900-1200

Today, Dr. Wan had issued us an assignment again. In this time, we do not make any structure; we just have to use our mind to create an abstract for our major.

9A: In a group of 5/major, produce a 300 words abstact of a paper on the given subtopic, to be submitted to mind shift. Submit on A4 portrait, Monday 11 Oct, 0900

9B: In the same group, produce a 1500 word paper. Selected papers shall presented at Mind Shift on 25th Oct 2010.

9C: Also provide an A2 poster paper to be exhibited at Mind Shift on 25 Oct.

My major is interior design. My group member has Chang Shing Iee, Hong Hui Yi, Chin Mei Thong, and Emran. The topic that had been given for our major is “We are the ones we've been waiting for". All of us also had been given a subtopic there are responsibility, sustainable design, communication, skill and knowledge, and attitude of work. I had chosen sustainable design as my subtopic and below are my product.
Project 9A: 300 word abstract
Sustainable design or environmental design is the design which can minimize the impact to the environment. This was a kind of design that produces a product or service which is made from renewable resources and makes the user feels closely with the natural environment. These designs have completely harmony with the man, nature and the spirit of the place. The importance of sustainability also depends on economic, ecological and social principle.

Project 9B: 1500 words
As a designer, we have to play our responsibility in order to save our earth since there is a lot of pollution and our earth was facing 2012 problem. Sustainable design or environmental design is the design which can minimize the impact to the environment and minimizes importation of goods and energy as well as the generation of waste. This was a kind of design that produces a product or service which is made from renewable resources and makes the user feels closely with the natural environment comply with the principles of economic, social, and ecological sustainability.

The mission of sustainability design is to create and build a home or community which is completely harmony with man, nature and the spirit of the place.
- Harmony with man
The home is the place or space which can provide the feeling of comfortable, privacy, and security to human and this all things will comes from the sensitively design from the designer in some of the aspects such as light, furniture, texture, colour and so on. The use of the natural materials and good ventilation can ensure the healthiest quality indoor environment.
- Harmony with Nature
As a designer, we work harmony with the nature and green environment. For example: the sun is an integral part of the home design. It provides daylight for us and heating the home in the winter season. We also use the solar energy to generate electricity. Besides, the natural flow of water is taken into consideration to keep the foundation and site dry and to prevent excessive run off to nearby streams. Therefore, to reduce the pollution and depletion of resources, we can maximize the energy efficiency and water efficiency.
-
Harmony with Spirit of the place
Every place has its own unique beauty and nature of the landscape that comes from unique history. As sustainable designer, we have respecting the region’s culture and history and responsible to being a positive influence on the people and natural beauty of the place.

In addition, there are some of the principles that designer have to follow in order to generate a sustainable development and energy independence:
· Understanding Place
· Connecting with Nature
· Understanding Natural Processes
· Understanding Environmental Impact
· Embracing Co-creative Design Processes
· Understanding People

All of us were waiting for the instruction.

Then, we had told to separate the bamboo according with the length and constructs following section.
We were arranged the bamboo and start to combined it.

Still in the construction.
During the construction, we were facing some problem that some of the component cannot fix into the pvc and cannot combine it with the other components. Therefore we had to re-do our trunk.

After that, Dr. Wan had invited one of the foreign students in our class to give her speech. She was talking about her life and studies in USM for the past two months.
It was discussion section now. One of the lecturers was starting his question.
Question: Firstly, he say that he never seem so many bamboo before. Where we can get this bamboo and its development?
Dr. wan : actually, we need a lot of bamboo and there is at least 10 % of bamboo in our jungle. Logging was destroying a lot of bamboo but we still can use it and the bamboo also can grow very fast.

Question: How this project will contribute to APEX and achieve the sustainability?
Dr. Wan : We are no longer sensitive to nature but we can change the formula or change the system. Do what we have to do. We had to learn how to unite and work together. We also have to save the world, save the people of the world and save the rule of the world.
Question: How about if 2012 is earthquake and other than flood?
Dr. Wan : we can have all other component in the university. There is a lot of other alternative development programme and we cannot aspect the disaster will happen. If it does not happen, we can thank the god. We also had to learn how to unite.
Question: Is the bamboo can generate energy?
Dr. Wan: There was other energy in this world such as solar energy and wave energy. But basically, do what we can do and study how to generate the energy.
Question: How long was the life span of bamboo?
Dr. Wan: we cannot get accurate answer and this can be done through research and development.
Question: How the bamboo can take part in the medical field?
Dr.Wan: We can do some research on the uses of bamboo in medical field and bamboo can cure "gila babi".
